The Egham Band

About Egham Youth Band

Egham Youth Band (EYB) was formed in January 2016 following the promotion of existing Band's training band that was formed in September of 2010.  The band currently consists of over 20 talented young players ranging from ages 9 to 16.  Part of the reason for its formation was to give the brass players at the local St. Jude’s School somewhere to continue playing outside of their ‘Wider Opps’ lessons and School Brass Band.  EYB are extremely grateful to Surrey Arts for their continued help in supplying instruments and tuition which has benefitted not only the school but also EYB.

Today EYB draws players from a much wider area whilst still incorporating many St. Jude’s or ex-St. Jude’s players. The band is very fortunate to have had players joining on a wide range of instruments and are therefore able to play a variety of music scored for brass band, ranging from music by The Beatles to film scores.ETB have made many local appearances since 2010 under their MD, Stewart Gaudion, retired Sergeant-Major of The Band of The Welsh Guards; these include Christmas concerts as well as Summer Fetes.  They also took part in The Godalming Music Festival in 2013 and 2014, winning first prize and third prize respectively.  Gareth Green, MD of Egham Band took over as MD of EYB after Stewart moved out of the area in 2014.

The band readily welcomes new players on all instruments, in particular cornet players.  Any new players must have had a basic amount of tuition as all training is done as a band.  All new members need to be able to read music and know basic fingering/slide positions as a minimum and be at Grade 3 or equivalent standard Rehearsals are held every Monday evening, 6:30-7:30pm at the Egham Bandroom. Looking to the future, we are hopeful that some of the players will continue playing and progressing to the stage where they will be able to join the Egham Band or other musical organisations and we are currently setting plans into place for this.
